ok so i over tightend them and reverted to 15ft lbs, now i notice that there are 4 threads showing on the bearing cap. all the other cam caps only show three...

yes this is what happened over tightened and pulled it up 1 thread.

Does any one know should i tap them back into the head one threads length? or just leave them?

My guess is that one thread out is probably ok since now when i tighten them to 15 ft lbs the torque wrench clicks. I think I will finish run it for a drive to work then recheck them to make sure they didnt loosen. then recheck at next oil change.

thoughts?

just as a follow up here. I removed the cam cap studs from the cylinder head and all the threads looked fine so i put them back and torqued the cam cap to the correct 15ft/lbs and it seems to be fine.

thank you

Howdy! Ancient thread, but I'm curious how tight you overtightened the cam cap bolts on your ALH and if you had any problems down the road. Thanks!
