DIESEL VW PICKUP WANTED? For conversion??

Brand new to the site and the cars but with ridiculous fuel prices I'm seriously thinking about buying a diesel powered VW Rabbit Pickup (or Caddy?) and also later converting it to bio diesel or vegetable oil... Always liked the look of them and I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and can do decent bodywork, so I'm not afraid to work on one if it needs it. So I will consider project trucks...

I have only read about the conversions online, haven't seen a conversion done (in person). Has anyone here done one that wants to share any thoughts on it? Or any thoughts as to why it shouldn't be done?
