It seems like if they can make a hybrid which is essentially a gasoline generator that charges the batteries on a car with an electric motor, they could just as well make it a diesel generator. That way instead of having gas hybrids that get 50MPG and diesel cars that get 50MPG, maybe we get a diesel hybrid that gets 80MPG.
This seems to make a ridiculous amount of sense, since the people who like saving money by using alternative fuels would generally just as well get a car with two kinds, and selling 80MPG is easier than selling 50. So why doesn't anyone build such a thing?
