Seeking TDI in New England

Hi all - I'm looking to buy a Jetta, Golf or Passat TDI for around $6,000 (depending on mileage and year). I prefer a Jetta but any TDI would be great. The most important things for me are reliability and fuel efficiency - I commute from southern VT to Greenfield MA. Thanks for your help! mhoulihan@nesea.org

not exactly a TDI, (IDI, NA) and a bit high in $$ for that car (should be $1500 - $2200)

best bet is autotrader Advanced search (fuel type)

plan to drive to the SE to get the best deal, and no rust, Atlanta area seems to have the bargains

I say, get the Passat (creature comfort, ease of maint)
try to buy from one owner, not a dealer that claims one owner. The sales tax laws really screw up the sales of private vehicles, but just like buying a house, it is much easier to discern the condition by an honest chat with the owner (use your own sense, watch for smoke blowers, know what you want, know your price, be prepared to walk away)
