rear shock housing removal?

Hello,

I am not able to figure out how to remove the nut off the top of the shock to reuse my old housing. pleaase help

They're cheap enough and I had one rattle for months until I finally figured out that was what was making the noise...

Need to counter-hold the shaft and use an offset box end wrench to remove the nut. Some shafts have a place to insert an allen wrench on the end, others have a tit with two flats that can be grabbed with vice grips. Worst case grab the shaft down below with vice grips if you are not going to re-use the shock anyway.

Or use an impact to remove it. That is what I did. Came right off.

The time before the last time I changed my rear shocks, I did not change the rear shocks mounts, and about a year later a knocking/clunking started in the rear and ended up eating the rear tires. I now have new orange dampers and new shock mounts and all is well and quiet.
