With my other (gasser) 5-Speeds I alway put the car in gear when parked with the e-brake on to prevent rolling should a brake line snap.

I noticed with my new '06 TDI the car rolls on the slight inclines even with the car in gear. Does it even make a difference to leave it in gear?

YOu mean if your car is in gear and you turn off the engine your car still rolls on an incline? That doesnt seem normal to me unless your foot is on the clutch.

Correct. And yes it geared opposite to the direction of the hill.

do yourself a favor. when you park downhill next to a curb. turn your wheel ALL the way to the right. when you are parked uphill turn it all the way to the left.

so that if your car DOES roll while you arnt there the wheel on the curb will stop it.
