I was thinking about the EFT thing last night and I really think after reading about Chase payment system it makes sense

The last thing VW needs during this buyback is a data breach

Keeping financial information completely out of their system and off of their networks reduces their liability and puts it in the hands of someone that is an expert at moving money and has the tools to do it securely

Overnight VW has gone from a car manufacturer to a massive car buyback company

Since the dealership is not involved in the transaction , this is new territory for VW

I don't object to them using Chase

I think in hindsight I would have chosen the paper check for the instant gratification but the risk with that is a mileage mismatch (no check) me loosing the check or my bank putting a hold on the $$$

While that's a possibility, my bigger concern is just getting rid of the car so I can log it as being sold with my insurance company and my bank that I'll be financing my next vehicle with.

I genuinely don't care if it takes a week or more to get a check if there's an issue on buyback day. ex. Mileage mismatch.

Probably half the time it goes down like this... drive away in the new car with nothing down, just a promise to pay.
When I boutht my JSW, there was at least a call to my bank to confirm the certified check I paid with. Just seems like there would be more security/ piece of mind in the transaction in this case. It should be easy for them to get chase on the phone to take your bank info for the EFT transfer while you are there at the dealership turning in your car for instance.

Are you hoping to make a few extra bucks?

Assuming VW eventually fixes the cars and resells, I want the future owner to have a nice car.

Only thing I want to do is pull the aftermarket amp I installed. I'll wire it back to working order -- easy to do, tho. Going to leave wiring and aftermarket speakers-- too much of a pain to remove.

Anyway, nice write up. Good to see it's actually working....
No, just curious! Have no interest in stripping car, pretty happy with money being paid for it. Any future buyer would have the opportunity to check any of these cars for completeness just like you would with any used car.

Regarding the EFT, I wonder what would happen if I walked into a car dealership and said to them "Ok, I want to drive this car home today. I will set up an EFT after I leave and you will be contacted within 24hrs through email for payment." I wonder how that would go over....
Have you never purchased a car by writing a personal check? It's commonly done. A personal check is far less secure than an EFT.

I have not. Only cash or certified bank check for me.

The main point is not about the overall security of EFT of course but how that transaction is initiated and where/ when that is initiated. I had expected the rational approach would be that it would be facilitated at the dealership through the settlement specialist, not in some iffy email that might come at some later time. Even if it makes sense that it is transacted without VW being in the middle, it could easily occur at turn in over the phone.

Did either of you who turned your TDI's in yesterday have a service contract? If so, how was it handled?

There is nothing political in my comment. It is you who is trying to make it political because you disagree with my opinion.

Regardless of where one is on the political spectrum, "VWAG didn't cheat any of us, your government did." is by definition a political statement.

Politics (from Greek: πολιτικός politikos, definition "of, for, or relating to citizens") is the process of making decisions applying to all members of each group. More narrowly, it refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance — organized control over a human community, particularly a state.

What he said was opinion but it is a fact it is also a political statement. He claimed it was not a political statement which is factually incorrect. Not trying to prove anything other than keep folks honest.

Money and a perfect running TDI that you can't replace.
I don't think that the average person is "losing money" on this deal.

Keep in mind that for the average person...a car is just a means of getting from Point 'A' to Point 'B'. Most people selling back their cars aren't going to be shedding tears over the decision.

I do not think you can do this sort of transaction over the phone.

Whenever I've done EFT, other than when I personally set it up from my banks' interfaces, they have been paper transactions. Moving investment money around and purchasing real estate required "wet signatures" resulting in overnight document deliveries and mild fees and annoyances.

Recent posts highlight why bitcoin would be a great option for those of us that are familiar with it.

Not that VW would..

There is nothing political in my comment. It is you who is trying to make it political because you disagree with my opinion.

My polite request is for you to take the politics someplace else.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/politics

this site is enjoyable because it is free of ads, and free of divisive subjects. (which have a tenancy to provoke impolite exchanges)

my request was written after reading several posts in a row from you that seem firmly rooted in an anti-obama, anti-EPA, anti government... (which I read as political).

Do not care to agree or disagree, just would like to see tdiclub a place where everyone can discuss the cars, without the emotional baggage.

Happy Thanksgiving

apologies for diverting this informative thread

You seem to know more than enough regarding this situation. Which are you taking, EFT or check? Do you recommend this to your peers?

I would like to get back to the buybacks now...Please! Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. In reality, be thankful and remember who gives two cents about another persons opinion when they disagree with it!? Let's all digress. OP again thank you for your informative post bud! We can all agree that we ALL appreciate that!

I wonder if I leave the RNS510 in my Golf if they will give me the extra $ in my buyback? If so I'll leave it in there (sucks because it has lifetime Sirius which I can't transfer) and you can have my RCD510 for your Father's Tiguan, just pay for the shipping (it's brand new, removed on day 1!)

You can transfer Lifetime Sirius. I did it 3 times so far. They charge $75. You can call them or do it using their chat function. I called for the third time and the lady waived the $75 charge.
