Volkswagen Canada celebrates best year ever with total sales of 43,138


AJAX, ON, Jan. 3 /CNW/ - Volkswagen Canada set another milestone in 2000 (the second year in a row) by breaking the 1999 sales total by 1,138 units. Sales for 2000 were 43,138, compared with last year's record of 42,000 units, an increase of 2.7%.
Volkswagen Canada finished the year on a positive note, with sales of 2,996 units during the month of December.
Volkswagen's best selling sedan, the Jetta, maintained the momentum with sales totaling 22,455 units, compared with 20,133 units in 1999, an increase of 11.5%. Passat sales amounted to 4,574, also an increase of 353 units from 1999. The Golf and GTi continued to generate strong sales with totals of 8,013 and 1,048 respectively. New Beetle sales also remained stable with a year-end total 6,023 units.
Volkswagen Canada attributes its success to a solid model line and the continuing, strong Canadian economy. The company looks forward to maintaining these results during 2001 with the introduction of several new models, including the New Passat.

Audi Canada celebrates best year since 1986 with total sales of 5992


AJAX, ON, Jan. 3 /CNW/ - Total Canadian Audi sales for 2000 were 5,992 new units, compared with 5,044 for the same period last year, an increase of 18.7% and the best result since 1986.
December 2000 sales for Audi were 526 units, this is a 3.7% increase from December 1999 sales of 507.
The Audi A4 continued to be a popular model with 2,831 sold in 2000. Of this total 2,791 were equipped with quattro all wheel drive. A6 sales also increased over the 1999 total of 1,538, with sales of 1,635 units, an increase of 6.3%.
The new Audi allroad, introduced in October, has also contributed to this record with sales of 87 units in just over two months. Audi's premium luxury automobile, the A8 finished the year with sales of 121 units.
Audi's strong sales this year are expected to continue during 2001 with the introduction of even more progressive designs.
