So my alh died on the way home
Cranks great but no start.
Glow plug light so 109 relay ruled out
got fuel to the filter and fuel return to the filter with mighty vac.
Only code in vagcom is egr valve low voltage which has been that way for a while.
Asv is good valve is open.
cracked fuel lines and getting fuel to all but still wont sart.
Fuel shutoff clicks when jumped
Timing belt looks good.
The car is in town so i am trying fix away from the shop.
Im thinking my next will be cps swap and then check timing marks.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Crank position sensor sounds likely to me....wiring/connection most likely. Try to inspect the wires before just replacing.

Also, make sure your static timing did not get way off....pulley on injection pump slipping. Maybe you could see signs of slippage where the bolts/washers meet the pulley?

I had a 5 sp 02 did the same thing last Sunday. Driving and saw my battery light come on and no power. Car stalled. Just crank and no start. I check everything timing, fuel line for leaks, re-primed IP off the #4 return line. Change 109 relay and changed the CPS. But my Tachometer moves so I don't think the cps was bad. Checked fuel solenoid everything checks out. When I cracked the fuel lines I got it to fire slightly. I thought maybe I'll advance the timing but it fired until it got out of range. My Static timing was dead on with Cam lock, crank on TDC and pin went into freely on IP. Then I found out that I was going the wrong way with my timing so I was retarding it. I will slightly advance it to see maybe If I was on the outer edge of the timing envelop. If that doesn't work I will check compression. Like you it was running great, just put on a new passenger side door lock because my alarm was going off randomly during the day. I will check back in, if you would likewise I hope one of us can figure it out.

If the 3 bolts on the pump were tight I would double check the static timing.
Better to be safe then sorry.

Also got my 02 going, Today. Timing -static timing was on, would not offer while cranking. Advanced it slightly took off. Had to dial it back because it was advanced beyond spec's. Glad you found out your bolts where not tight enough. Thought maybe mine was that way too but seemed tight when I loosened them, but not really sure exactly why is quit. Started messing around with lines and got air in the system so that took me a while to bleed, I will keep a close watch on it.
