I drive an '04 Jetta TDI with a 5 speed manual. I bought it last year with about 70K miles on it, and now has just over 100K. The first time I changed the oil I used 505.00 out of ignorance, and ran it for about 1500-2000 miles before replacing it with 505.01. I find myself topping off the oil about every 1000 miles with about 1/4 quart of oil (~1 quart/5000 miles). I cannot find any oil leaks so I know thats not causing it. Is this normal consumption or could I be burning oil in excess?
Looking at it, 1/4 quart/1000 miles does not seem like that much. I just never really had to top off any of my gas vehicles, of course with those I also changed the oil every 3000 miles, not 5 or 10K in my TDI.
