My alternator had been making some static(y) type noise for the last few weeks. The other day the battery light came on for awhile, then went off then came back on and stayed on.
Took the alternator out and went to get it tested and they said no voltage output at all.

So should I assume that this cannot be fixed by replacing the regulator/brush assembly and that this is some terminal winding or other failure that will require a new/rebuilt alternator? The brushes were well worn below spec but still in contact.

its a 120A Bosch 0 123 515 020

Thank you in advance for any advice

Brushes are needed to make electricity. "making contact" should provide some power, but they are the most likely problem. Weigh your odds and make your choice. I'd do the brushes - but that's me.
