VWR on MK7 TDi = forward rake?

I installed the VWR springs yesterday on my Koni Yellows and it has forward rake. Are all VWR TDI springs like this?

The ride is fine but I hate the fact it's not sitting even in the front and back. It would be much better if it sat flat.

Do other springs (H&R, ED,...) do the same thing? :(

Anyone have pictures of their MK7 Golf with the VWR?

I have VWRs on my GTI on stock dampers. I feel the rake is neutral (if any, it's slightly forward). A slight forward rake is not a bad thing. That's how they come from the factory on the OEM springs.

With VWRs:

Yes, on the other models it looks perfect, but on the TDI it has forward rake...

I'll take a picture and post it up.

VWRs on my TDI have a slight forward rake as well. Bilstein B8s

I have drivergear springs to test if I ever get around to it. I'd prefer a bit more wheel gap in the front.

Here is how it sits now with VWRs. Lots of front rake as you can see, also the front is so low...

Yep, I've mentioned on some different threads that I don't recommend the VWRs because of how low the front is. Lower than advertised

Is it extra weight from the TDI engine that makes the TDI's sit low in the front?

What about the pads/shoes or upper strut bushings that the springs contact? The car looks to be sitting low in the front by about an inch or so. I am sure that the factory height for the GTI or R would be a bit higher in the front.

I like the look especially if you could drop the back to match and squeeze some 19's in there :)

I think VWR didn't match the fronts properly to the TDI even though they say they're specifically for the TDI on their site. In my opinion from the photos I've seen, the H&Rs sit better in the front but may be slightly stiffer ride due to a progressive spring rate vs linear. If all goes as planned, I'll be installing driver gear springs this week and will post photos.

Yup, here are pictures. The best visually would be DG front & VWR rear. But As I mentioned it's a little bouncy in the front.

Side view with forward rake. The rear sits at stock height basically.

Front wheel gap.

Rear wheel gap.

I'm just posting up the part numbers of the Spring options I've found. If people who have them installed can post up picture of their cars, it would be great.

I think VWR should look into fixing the TDI front springs IMO. Just looking at Blue Hens pictures, there's no way that there should be a difference between GTI and TDI. His GTI looks perfect to me, I'd be thrilled with that.

Perhaps fixed springs aren't the answer and coilovers are.

I have mine dialled in so I have the car perfectly level when the trailer is onboard.

I am sure it would driven me crazy trying to level things out with fixed springs! Just my 2 cents.

Both Golf and GSW use the same beam axle. In the aftermarket, the added weight of the wagon is compensated with an adaptor to bring the height up to not have a reverse rake. To answer your other question, all the reviews of the H&R springs have been positive in the MK7 forum of this site.

I checked H&R and the Golf SportWagen with beam axles uses part 54788.
The Golf with beam axle uses part 54786-2 so they are indeed a different part number.

I haven't see any reviews of the 54786-2 on a normal Golf. I'll take the plunge I guess and hopefully it works out. Otherwise I'll have to order the Eibachs from Germany.

Not yet, I may get a chance next week to install them. The rear pads should only be needed with the wagons to compensate for the added weight.

I'm not sure, myself I have ordered the TT spring pads as a precaution, supposedly the VWRs are only a 1.18 drop in the rear and to my eye that would look just about perfect with a proper setup in the front.

1 of 2 front H&R springs installed tonight, will get the other in the morning and have a photo to share (though it may settle a little afterwards). I'll edit this post when I'm done!

Edit as promised. Gained about .5" in height over the VWRs in the front. Very pleased, even if it settles a little. Also, it rides smoother and not as harsh as the VWRs which I was not expecting.

That looks much better! I'm not surprised the ride is much better, the shocks have much more space to properly move.

I also think it's great that we both have Tornado Red MK7 TDI Golfs. :)

Yes! Pretty sure the VWRs were allowing the suspension to bottom out on the bump stops whereas now I've yet to get that on the same bumps. So much better! And yes, the red was not really what I was looking for but have come to really like it.
