brief power loss shortly after first accelerating

Two days ago, shortly after starting my 02 jetta tdi I went to accelerate but felt very little power for about 5-10 seconds. Then, all of a sudden it just regained power and ran normally. The check engine light did come on though. Since then, every time I start the car I get the same thing happen... it runs like a dog for a few seconds, then regains power and runs fine for the rest of my trip. The check engine light does come on now each time I run the car. Any idea what it could be? Thanks.

I suggest checking out DTC-s via VCDS (VAG-COM) if possible. As the CEL came on, there sure are some to look at.
This won't fix your car but will give you (us also) a right direction.
