I've seen this stuff (amazon link) around. It's supposed to leave a permanently bonded layer of graphite on compatible surfaces, and folks have said it works great on exhaust manifolds to keep them from rusting and looking slick. Wondering if anyone has tried this on their car? I have a spare exhaust manifold and turbo laying around that I'm thinking about trying it on...

I'm not expecting anything like a cerakote, but for the price, it seemed like a decent way to keep things neat.

Says 400*F max, like that's not even idle temp on a hot day at a traffic light. let alone the 1,000*+ temps you will see when normally driving around on a hill or something.
the "rust" is really protective as it is as the heat forms it into something else entirely, its technically not rust(ferrous oxide) its a type of black rust (ferro-ferric oxide) but has way to many impurities and not enough H and o2 to be full FFO.
guess it's worth a try, once it stops working let us know. IMO its not worth trying lol!
however, i have had extremely good results with BBQ silicone heat wrap spray. just don't heat wrap it lol. learn from my mistake, my 3" downpipe is GONE because i heat wrapped it.

that's pretty interesting, it's been more than a few years since inorganic chem... but that makes sense, since it maintains its structure and doesn't flake.

I didn't see that effective range rating, but I'm kinda curious if that is only for lubricity...

I wonder if I can cure the manifold like a cast iron pan... soak it in bacon grease and bake it a couple times... Then my car could smell like crayons AND bacon!

The bacon grease idea could actually be implemented in car, far less labor. Wrap it

Oh, wrap it in bacon!? I approve of this lol
Did you see my downpipe? 3 years and its non existant due to trapped moisture from heat wrap. And it was coated with high temp paint too before wrapping.
