I have a 2014 35d x5 at idle temperature is at about 155* I’m thinking that a little low my tdi would run at 190*.

BMW doesn't have a coolant temperature gauge, what you're looking at is engine oil temperature.

True but I'm using a scan Guage.155 sitting and 195 driving so that should be good

That sounds about right, especially if you talk about your x5 idling for a while after a start up. Diesels take a long time to warm up.

I actually prefer having the oil temp displayed instead of coolant temp, since the true engine temp is more accurately reflected by the temp of the oil rather than the coolant.

It was the same in my '98 Audi A4 1.8TQ, though I wonder why VW only displays coolant temps... and only on some models.
