Oops.. driving a gasser
Hi folks,
My timing belt has about 100k km on it. Time to replace? Soon? Any DIYers in the area who can help/show me how/etc? I know a couple of trusted garages in the area but I'd rather avoid paying shop rates if I can.
PM please.
Cheers,
WM

I though the MKIV belt interval was a lot more than 100K.

The interval is 160k, but time is also a factor. If the car only does 10k per year, it should be changed before the 160k mark. When was the last one installed?

I'm the third owner of the car. There's a faded sticker in the engine compartment that says the belt was changed at 245,xxx km. It's now at 340,xxx. So in theory it's got a ways to go but I don't know how old the belt is. In May I will have had the car for 3 years... I bought the car with 300,xxx km on it.

You worry too much. The car is 11-12 years old and is on the second belt. It's not too old.
