The three week delay is one thing, but curious whether Winterkorn, Neusser or Diess sold off stock or passed that info to others who did, prior to September 18th. VW stock was already in a steady decline, losing 35% between April thru August of that year. But in September it fell off a cliff, losing 45% over a matter of days.

Does anybody know the story behind the April to August 2015 slide? Mediocre sales? Insider info?

I think a report came out earlier in the year that VW's sales in the U.S. had stagnated (again).

Globally they were doing just fine and growing, but the U.S. sales report was a little grim. Most models were pretty long in the tooth by that point and very little was new or exciting. Subaru outsold VW... and did so with fewer models and even less variety than VW's lineup.
