I just got a tour of the DEF "Cart" at the AUDI dealer. The Cart did not have a "By Pass hose/funnel" to fill the Audi Q7 lower tank. It appeared to just use pressure to fill both tanks. The Service Adviser said they just press filler nozzle into the DEF tube and watch how much DEF goes in. I speculate that the top tank fills, then the pump pressure forces the DEF into the lower tank. Venting was part of the nozzle.
I just put 5.5 GAL in my Q7. The slight up hill did help with venting. I got the warning saying that I had 1,500 miles. Once I filled the first half gallon, the warning went away. But it took three fills. The first took 2.7 gal. The second took about 2 gals. and the third Balance. I drove the Q7 between each fill.
