I'm forever busy with family commitments but a good GTG would take priority. Our 2003 Beetle is in need of a refresh and lots of attention, it just turned 200k. Probably time-due for a TB as well.
My '94 Audi Cabriolet AFN swap has been stalled for a few years due to a move and health. Got everything to do it just need time, ability and space. I just had hip surgery 3 weeks ago, hopefully PT goes well or I'll be having back surgery after the first of the year.

Hopefully the Beetle won't need another oil pan!

I thought I was the only one having issues with cracked oil pans, that goes to show you how great our bay area roads are.

Mine was memorable, I did it on a test drive after some guru work at a GTG!(I think it was the last part of an ESP retrofit)

Luckily it was on day one of a 2 day GTG, David and Ashlee brought me an oil pan, and Aaron made his easiest skid plate sale ever.

Yep, I remember you pulling in after a chow run (IIRC) and while a bunch of us were talking, I noticed a fluid flowing out from under the car. You’d taken a speed bump a little fast.

That sounds about right. It was raining so torrentially hard that I misjudged the speed bump around the corner from where we were.

I had made it 8 years without a skidplate at that point, with the only mishap being my wife dislodging the intercooler hose once.

I've had a total of 3 with skid plates on the car, I could not figure it out why, up until I saw one of the oil pan got hit right close to the oil plug on the bottom flat part, and the culprit was actually the skid plate (Flaw)that little plate that you take out to be able to change the oil, got an aluminium bar plate across and when skid plate is hit from the bottom it pushes that little plate hard towards oil pan cracking it, so if you have that little plate pls take it out and skid plate now would not be a lemon.

I did make it out there one year, day trip from Boston. First flight out, red-eye home. It was a lot of fun. But GTGs are a thing of the past now, pretty much. Kirk Blackmore has one in Grand Rapids in a couple weeks, I'm going to that. And Peter and Julie had a GTG at the Ho5G at New Year's, but I'm not certain they'll continue with that.

I spent a lot of time in the early years of running IDParts going to GTGs, traveling to Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Ohio, and lots of other places. It was a lot of fun. But time marches on.

I know exactly what piece your talking about. I bought an old used skid plate off a fellow member here and it has that piece on it. Its been on the car for a few months now. Taking it off tonight! Thank you!

we seem to be here but is it that we are all over the hill??? or our reflexes are shot? no motivation whatsoever, no GTG and no interest LOL
Speak for yourself Robert...:D I observed that the dwindling Bay Area TDI spirit and non-existent GTGs may have also coincided with the start of on line dating extravaganzas by some members of this forum...

I know at least one person who used to be very active in the local TDI community but who is now EXTREMELY busy juggling his multiple other commitments and getting extremely fit with continuous high intensity cardiovascular activities. Not sure it's the lack of motivation or interest... just competing ones... LOL

Keeping it alive..... Let's see if we can make a simple GTG happen.. start small and build up from there

The speed bumps near the space in San Pablo are especially treacherous.

Hey Pierre I am not sure if you are referring to me. I can attest however that online dating did take away my focus on making the GTG’s happen.
I vacated the San Pablo warehouse and it is 100% sure that there will be no GTG’s ever happening there again.

I am looking for an industrial space that would accommodate a week-end GTG through my network of customers.

And the PC police are out!

The correct FULL name is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) btw. Colloquially people use the source of a disease when the scientific name is too cumbersome. Spanish flu, German measles are just two examples. "Covid19" is an attempt to use a shorter term (apparently "SarzCuv2" was considered too long also).

There's no reason to call the disease anything other than "COVID-19," caused by the "SARS-CoV-2" virus. You can no longer claim ignorance to the reasons why WHO actively refrains from naming the disease in a manner in which you have called it. Your choosing to continue to call it anything other than the accepted World Health Organization name is irresponsible and creates a negative environment where there doesn't need to be.

My God (excuse me, Buda or alah or...) what thin skin. Yes I read the sensitivity training handbook, but you obviously read into the comments. Not even about race, just attaching a know origination. This thread at first interested me (GTG, must mean something other than "get to gather"). We could sit down and color?

I didn't read into your comments. You plain and simply stated exactly as WHO suggests not to do. Did you read the articles?
From article: The WHO referenced guidelines set in 2015 that ensure the name does not refer to a geographical location, an animal, an individual or group of people, while still being pronounceable and related to the disease. ... “Having a name matters to prevent the use of other names that can be inaccurate or stigmatizing,” said Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Is it hypersensitive of me to recognize the marginalization of a group of people?

You know what happened in 2009 with regard to the H1N1 outbreak? Yeah, a bunch of thin skinned, hypersensitive folks thought that the original name (Swine Flu) was impactful to a certain group of people.
From the article: "In 2009, the WHO stopped using the term “swine flu” and replaced it with Influenza A (H1N1), following a drop in the pork market."
Yup, those thin skinned and hypersensitive, US pork farmers...

Regarding your defense of attaching a place of origin to the name of the disease.
From the article: The 1918 influenza pandemic was widely called the Spanish Flu in the U.S., even though it did not originate in Spain.
Look out, by the end of this thing, COVID-19 could be renamed the United States Flu if we become the chart toppers...

Right or wrong on this example of COVID-19 origin, there are standard conventions and rules put in place for a reason, it's for the perceived better good of the community. Sometimes you agree with the conventions/rules, sometimes you don't...but they should be followed. You are not a special snowflake are you?

I've hosted at least half a dozen of these GTGs at my personal residence. Each GTG, my wife establishes the ground rules and expectations for all participants to follow. If you break the rules, you are asked to leave. She has escorted people off our property for speeding down our street and for being rude to our neighbors. If you can't/won't follow the expected behavior at a GTG, you wouldn't be the first to be walked to the door.

I can't make you change your ways. I can only try to educate you as to why your chosen words are not helpful. It's about following convention...for the benefit of pork farmers of all racial backgrounds.

You can call me thin skinned all day if you want, I have no issue. You are also welcome to sit down and color, stand and color, sit and twiddle your thumbs, or any other combination of tasks so long as you obey the rules of the gathering.

If you read my response you wouldn't have wasted your time typing or mine in response. I'll clarify, yes I read each lengthy link.

Thats all warm and fuzzy, but is unfounded in this case. A few others & myself were merely identifies the origin. Facts are a stubborn thing.

Certainly not but throwing an assumed racist card out is.

That my friend, that is known as projection.

If you look at the charts the U.S. is not solid red like about every other country, certainly developed country.

Snowflake??? Me? Really, think about it.

As it should be, my suggestion would be, is to not just rely on the wife(?)

I'm like several here, who have already stated the non racist fact of the virus origin. No programmed academia needed, thanks anyway.

Kind of expected that, thank you, my instincts say pass.

My apologies, you did state you read the "sensitivity training handbook." Apparently you seem to have reading comprehension issues, or are just willfully ignoring the naming convention and the reasons for it.

"COVID-19 that originated in China" is different than "Wuhan/China Flu." Naming convention is a stubborn thing too it seems.
Certainly not but throwing an assumed racist card out is.
I never accused you of racism. I accused you of using language that is "irresponsible and creates a negative environment where there doesn't need to be." Then I gave you an example where naming of a disease was impactful in a non-racial way...where pork farmers took exception to the casual name...see next...
That my friend, that is known as projection.
You misread the intent on that one, sorry. That is me saying the poor naming of a disease is not a race only issue, as you assumed my stance to be. Thoughtful names are given for the benefit of many a people, a race of people or a working class of people. I was merely reusing your descriptors; you are the one applying racial tones to them.
If you look at the charts the U.S. is not solid red like about every other country, certainly developed country.
We certainly aren't done with the spread and diagnosis yet. So hold on. Maybe read up on exponential growth?
Snowflake??? Me? Really, think about it.
You seem to willfully disregard convention and rules as expected...makes you a special snowflake in my mind.
As it should be, my suggestion would be, is to not just rely on the wife(?)
That's cute. I have no problem asking someone to leave my property. I was likely just having too much fun, involved with a vehicle, or tending to the grill...so she decided to do the deed. Projection on your part? ;)
I'm like several here, who have already stated the non racist fact of the virus origin. No programmed academia needed, thanks anyway.
Reading comprehension help then? History? Math/Exponential growth?
Kind of expected that, thank you, my instincts say pass.
Have a great day:)
Enjoy!
