New Saskatchewan TDI Owner - Cold Starts?

I just took my 2011 Jetta TDI to Waskesiu from Saskatoon. It was about -30 overnight with windchills near the -40 mark for the two days I was there. I did not plug in the car overnight and it started without a problem each morning.

Oh, did I mention that I averaged 5.2 L/100 km (and I may have been speeding)? It sure is nice to go on a road trip to the lake, make several day trips, drive home, and still have 2/3 of a tank left for the workweek.

Technology has sure improved over the older diesels hasn't it..... Is your Jetta subject to some of the same recalls on glow plugs as my brothers Passat? The Ceramic ones are being replaced with metal ones due to flaws in the ceramic, it is a recall and they reflash the ECU at the same time.....
