Hello, Im looking at picking up a new (to me) TDI.

I have a few options but one that Im looking at is a 03 with around 300k miles on it.

Its a 5 speed with a new clutch, timing belt, tires and also has a block heater.

It appears to be in good condition, no body damage and Im pretty sure its a GL.

What other things should I look out for or expect to have to replace if I pick up this car?

Thanks

The main concern is who did the timing belt, what parts were used, and what procedure was used.

If the seller cannot confirm that the belt was done with three idler rollers, new tensioner, waterpump, five stretch bolts and the proper procedures for locking the cam and pump, then assume you will have to do the timing belt job again.

How well does the car shift into gear (especially second)?

everything else is standard stuff when was the last time the following were replaced:

struts
brakes
lower control arm bushings
rear axle bushings
glowplugs
injection pump
nozzles
turbo
when was the intake manifold last cleaned?

None of these are deal breakers, but can cost a decent amount to bring the car up to snuff.

Your best bet is to get the car inspected by someone local who is familiar with TDI jettas.
