The New York Times today had a full page ad (page A11) from VW congratulating the Polo BlueMotion as a finalist in World Green Car Competition. Nice picture, not a lot of text.

No, it doesn't do that. Newer BMWs are getting that feature as standard, the 1-series for example has it, and the 3-series convertible has it too. Basically any recently redesigned BMW is getting engine star/stop and brake energy regeneration. Not as an option, standard.lawallac said:Doesn't the Polo shut down when stopped at idle to concerve fuel?
You will get the Polo in the USA, but not as a VW.MAW said:VW needs to pull their head out of their A$$ and offer this in the USofA. I would sell my Golf for this.
There is no way a 105hp Mini D will get 64 mpg US. That engine has been out in similar-sized Fords, Peugeots and Citroens for years, and is rated around 50 mpg in ost of them.tonkabob said:The Polo isn't doing much for me. The 60 MPG is nice but I would rather have the Mini D that gets 64 MPG and has 105 hp and handles. Sorry - I do own a Golf and a Mini both.
On their UK site, they list "Extra-Urban" (highway) mileage as 76.3 MPG(Imp), which translates to 63.5 MPG(US).There is no way a 105hp Mini D will get 64 mpg US.
The 2007 Mini interior is much improved. It is still very quirky but quality is on par with my 2006 GolfMcBrew said:On their UK site, they list "Extra-Urban" (highway) mileage as 76.3 MPG(Imp), which translates to 63.5 MPG(US).
Combined city/hwy MPG is listed as 64.2(Imp) or 53.5(US) MPG. Not bad!
I would think about one, but I don't like all the cheap plastic on the interior of the Mini. A friend of mine has a Mini "S", and wants to get rid of it -- ever since her husband bought a 2006 Jetta TDI! The Mini has been back to the dealership MANY times in its 100,000 miles.
Hmmm... that's 40MPG(US). You can probably add a couple MPG for their heavy feet, and a few more once the car is broken in. Still somewhat low for such a small car. Then again, it is faster than my Golf. It's rated at 4.4 l/100km, they got 5.9 l/100km during their review.
That's good. I really don't like the look or feel of the earlier ones. The plastic speedo pod that looks like a 2-year-old could snap it off... the plastic door handles with mold seams that are uncomfortable to grip... etc.The 2007 Mini interior is much improved. It is still very quirky but quality is on par with my 2006 Golf
They also do a "economical driving" test in every car they review. 4.3 l/100km in the Mini D with a light right foot.McBrew said:Hmmm... that's 40MPG(US). Nice! That's almost 55 MPG(US).They also do a "economical driving" test in every car they review. 4.3 l/100km in the Mini D with a light right foot.
That looks Like FUN!! And 60+mpg at 56mph (IMP? or US?).... Hmm If I only had the $$ and it was here....candrews4tdi said:Speaking of conserving fuel....with a lot of torqued out power.....there needs to be a high performance diesel sports car added to djbobo's list: The Trident Iceni R

This would be a toy worthy of a mid-life crisis.
