I'm looking for a ford ranger diesel any year. Complete running truck or even just the engine

I have a nice 84 Tempo 2.0 Mazda RF diesel (same engine as Ranger)
5 speed, new timing belts (front and rear) and water pump
Ugly little car that runs great, everything works including cruise.

PM me if interested. Oregon is a long ways away from me in KC.

There are just too many to list....
It is NOT the same engine as the Ranger used. The Ranger used a 2.2L pushrod diesel, not the 2.0L SOHC the 626/Escort/Tempo used. Then later the Ranger got a Mitsubishi 2.3L turbodiesel.

I had an '84 Ranger diesel, it was a piece of crap. The engine was sturdy in construction, but fit like socks on a rooster, had that goofy ToyoKogyo 5sp transmission that was geared all wrong, was pitiful on power and not all that fuel efficient (a later model 2.3L SOHC EFI gas engine can get almost as good on the highway, and actually pull itself up a hill).

I also had a 2.2L Toyota diesel truck, that was better made but still pretty pokey.

Rangerstation has some good info here:

Oops, my bad. One of our locals put a 2.0 RF in a Ranger, when we were talking he told me that was the same engine the factory installed Ranger diesels had. I never looked into it any further.

Thanks, Brian for clearing that up and for providing the link.

Ranger got the same engine the Mazda B2200 Diesel got (which was also sold at Ford dealers through 1982 as the Courier, albeit with a gas engine).

True, that 2.3 L gas engine in the rangers is pretty stout. I did a few 3000 lb towing runs (with a 5-spd) in one of those. With no load it can easily pull 30 mpg
