And if so, will I be able to retune afterwards?

I've been reading threads here until my eyes are glazing over and can't find the simple answer(s).

Love my 2015 Beetle, want to keep it. Could not possibly care less about what CARB or the EPA want or don't want, just want to keep my car and have it run as well or better.

Any simple answers?

Thanks

No simple answer...
Till it happens, nobody knows what the changes are 100%.
Seems like a added sensor or two, an extended warrenty, and a free oil change....
But till a tuner gets their hands on a car that was fixed...
They can't tell you they can undo it....
Will the ecu be locked down? Even changed?
Who knows.

Personally, I expect there will be a Gen 3 fix, mostly an increase in SCR dosing and possibly some EGR operation tweaks. (along with a latter addition of a 2nd NOx sensor).

If you like it, you could always do nothing and keep it just like it is. I don't know what a tune would do, and what it could or could not do. Nothing needs to be decided right now, so you can just wait for reports from early adopters of the fix (if it actually happens).

If there's no fix, just keep driving and be happy!

I expect of all of them - the GEN 3's will be the easiest to bring close (or into ) conformity, at some unknown cost in HP/Torque and reliability/drivability (probably not much). IMO....

Well I live in California, so just keeping it is not an option.

But thanks!

From what I can see it should only require a few software tweaks to do or undo.....

all replies much appreciated!

Betting that you are wrong. What exactly is going to change CARBs mind? VW? Doesn't sound like they were impressed with the 3.0 "fix". It's not just software folks.

Please try to keep up...

Uh, the settlememt that is going to reduce the number VW has to hit, perhaps? Thus making a fix an almost certainty, and has already been documented in court paperwork?

No reason the 3.0 won't be treated the same . . .

What leads you to that conclusion? Check out appendix D of the DOJ settlement agreement (which CARB is a party to), section 4.2.9. As long as you don't have a check engine light and aren't putting out smoke you're fine.
