Oil changes - if you past 10K miles

I have a 2012 Passat TDI SE...I really love this vehicle (39K miles and rising fast!).

My question...I've got 39K miles...and my car has to go in for service soon (200 miles, according to the car computer). Readying for a 600-700 mile this weekend...just wondering how far past 10K miles the ol' trusty TDI can go over the recommended service interval before servicing. I'm certain the computer is giving me a guideline...but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks, fellow TDI owners!

As I've read here many, many times: Drive more, worry less.

Get your oil changed after your trip.

I would have the oil changed prior to your trip, as delaying service isn't a good practice to get into. That said, if you can't work it into your schedule, it won't kill the car to wait until you get back.

OC before the trip, if time permits. I always think it's a good idea for someone (me!) to eyeball undercarriage components before a trip. If not, an extra few miles on the oil won't be noticeable.

I've heard, that 10,000.1 miles the entire car vaporizes.
Yeah, I bet you believed that.

10K is too long between services for some, and well within normal for others.
If you decide to go on that trip - check and top off the fluids. Sleep well.
If you decide to service it a little early, you'll sleep better.

Drive more, worry less.

Don't sweat the small stuff! This oil is capable of running many more miles than 10K. Either that or start changing every 3500 miles...

Shhh Don't tell the folks in Europe that go 20,000 on an oil change...

10,000 the oil is in PERFECT condition and doing its job. I change mine every 2 years due to low mileage and never bat an eyelash about it.

The E-Class goes 20K or 2 years, ask me if Im worried about it...

Oh, an occasional oil analysis will quickly tell you that 10K oil changes are pretty much a waste of good oil...

2002 TDI (ALH) with 513,000 km. First Owner and very happy... No Problems, never left us stranded on the Highway. Average useage is about between under 4 ltr. and 5 ltr. Normal longdistance travel: 4.1/100
Just keep the oil at the upper mark on the dipstick and just drive. Have fun.
