Greetings fellow TDI enthusiasts!
This is my first official post, but I've been lurking for some time.
I'm a proud owner of a 2006 Beetle TDI, over 250,000 miles now. Second owner, nearly 18 months with no problems. We've had a fairly harsh\cold winter here in Wisconsin and I think it is starting to take its toll on my girl.
Over the weekend I replaced my intake flap motor. I was previously receiving a P2108 error and essentially bought a replacement because of this thread over at newbeetle.org: http://newbeetle.org/forums/1-9-liter-tdi/48421-p2108-code.html
Installation was easy and probably only took me 30 minutes. Immediately afterward on the next ignition I began seeing a P2100 code. I see that there could potentially be a 'learning' procedure for the new motor, but I don't know anyone that has or myself own a VAG-COM device.
I'm really trying to avoid going to the dealer or the mechanic on this one, I want to be able to diagnose and repair problems like this in the future. I love this little car and want to get as many miles out of it as possible.
I'm not opposed to getting a VAG-COM device from Ross Tech, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
Does anyone have any advice or experience with this that may be able to help?
Thanks much in advance.

Vag-com is great. I own a copy, but I also have a generic OBD reader/eraser that works just fine for erasing known codes. Ie: when you're working on it and unplug something to test and a code pops up.

All I'm saying is you can erase the code with a cheapy, if you just want to see if it comes back. No need for Vag-Com in all situations.

With it going from one code to another, with a new part, I wonder if it's electrical?

There are just too many to list....
There should be no learning procedure.

I am always wary of non-VAG specific scan tools, as they can and often do either not give the whole picture or give a bunch of gibberish and send you chasing your tail. If you want to be able to stay on top of your NB's systems, VCDS or something similar is necessary.

Without that, I can only suggest checking for any wire chaffing to the throttle flap connector, but I have never seen that on a BEW.

I have an ODBII tool that I leave plugged in all the time and is paired to my android phone. I've been monitoring that while I drive and the throttle doesn't seem to respond as expected. It just stays at 95.3% the entire time. Now I'm almost wondering if the part I received was defective...

Maybe I'll throw the old one back in and see what happens. Also may be time to bite the bullet and a vag-com reader. $199 seems like a lot up front, but if it can save me trips to the dealer it will definitely be worth it.

Edit: I've read on some forums that when this part fails there is also a fuse that goes bad in the engine bay. I haven't been able to locate the specific fuse for this part. Anyone have an idea what fuse # that may be?

Thanks again.

There is no actual throttle on that car. The intake flapper is for EGR purposes, not control over engine speed. That is all done with fuelling. I drove mine for years with the flapper removed from the shaft as part of my EGR delete. Now that whole assembly is sitting in a milk crate.

Boy were you right. I have scanned my baby, definitely looks like something electrical. I've checked the harness and not found any frayed wiring nor have I found any blown fuses. I'm not concerned about the glow plug error, I will handle that closer to next winter. What are my next steps?
