Done the deed today.
No special tools, did not really need any.
The only real fight I had was with engine mount bracket. To get that mother out I learned whole new vocabulary!Never knew I had it in me!
Did not remove any sprockets, just the tensioner.
To lock the fuel pump I used 6mm drill bit,it's dead ON! Of course, the business end OUT.
With the new belt I noticed less smoke.
The tensioner on the old belt was about 1cm of, so the belt did stretch a bit between 0- 100 000km.
So now the next step - intake clean-up,EGR and on and on and on.......
When will it end?

It took about 4 hours, oil and filter included.
Since this was a first time on this particular car [99.5 Jetta] the pace was relaxed. No need to rush.
In the future, 2 hours would probably be enough.

Just wonder, does anyone in Lower mainland have Vag-com tool or any scan tool capable of reading the OBD II codes?

Does the new belt slip on easily with the tensioner off or is it a real tight fit? How difficult is it to reinstall the tensioner, given the tightness of the new belt?

Curious what you used for the tensioner pin wrench.

That belt is TIGHT!
It will go on, but bit by bit.
For the tensioner I used pin wrench which I use on my hand grinder, had to make it fit.
Tensioner goes on O.K. but one has to be carefull to place that little hook into its proper place before you torque it in.
