TDI knocking

My 1.9 with 378k has started knocking ratteling but runs ok. Now has check engine code.

Have you tried any type of scanner on it? lol

Check injector values with VCDS.
Pull the valve cover and check camshaft and lifters.

Use a stethoscope or hose-in-ear to isolate the sound. Valve cover or Injection Pump most likely culprits.

Just throw some new pistons, rings, connecting rods and bearings, crankshaft and main bearings, cranks seals, oil pump, a rebuilt head, injection pump, and some new injectors in it and the sound should go away.

When was the timing belt last changed and who did it and what all was replaced?

Probably ... but I've seen mechanics replacing the whole suspension over something rattling on the glovebox ... so ...
