his touch screen was broken from him putting the suction cup of his GPS on the touchscreen....
Well, there is nothing else on the dash that a suction cup would stick to, and it is positioned so that you can easily see it. There is a certain logic to it, really. That's one of my beefs with the portable units is that you have wires all over the place and then have to figure out where to attach it without being in the way.

But let's say you took the trouble to try and swap radios (and then deal with activation issues because each radio wouldn't like the fact that it was now in a different car). And I am guessing your dad would probably continue to attach the suction cup to the screen .

Did you happen to use the Buy Back calculator that someone had posted on line? If so, was the buy back close to what the calculator said?
Would you mind saying how much you got for the car and what mileage was on it?
I assume it was a 2010 Jetta. Any options?
Thanks and Congrats.

Awesome write-up, thanks!

I'm a little less than two weeks from my buy-back and regret not snapping up the earlier date that I saw the first time I logged in (11/29)...but that was gone in 5 minutes and I settled for 12/6.

I've purchased my replacement and just driving the JSW lightly to keep the battery fresh.

He could care less what it looked like, it was well dented with door dings and scratches, (Northern VA parking lots) the TPMS light was on from it sitting in my garage and the temp dropping , and the check engine light was on for a P0401 code. It was overdue for a fuel filter change and DSG service and covered in dust from being parked. I even ripped the TDI badge off in front of them as a souvenir.
i see you got two keys in the picture, do you think having one might be an issue?

I saw on another thread someone asked VW claims that. They were told no issues with only one, and same amount of money. Now this is coming from VW claims people, so take it for what most of what they said is worth!

Very possible that they do care. I just don't see them caring enough to in any way impact us. IDK though, no one does until someone does a turn in and reports being knocked for missing a key fob.

I wish I would have pulled the RCD-510... I drove home in my 80 year old fathers Tiguan and found his touch screen was broken from him putting the suction cup of his GPS on the touchscreen....

Seniors!!! (I can't give him a hard time, he is 80, driving a 200HP Tiguan and has an iPhone and GPS)
I know I will regret not pulling my Kenwood head unit, but it's just a PITA at this point. I don't have time for uninstalling and reselling.

Another buyback

Another day-one buyback checking in. I was the first buyback processed at University Volkswagen (Seattle) and, according my my settlement specialist, one of 17 buybacks today nationwide. Overall a very similar experience to wilcharl, including confusion over the EFT payment. I ended up being there for close to an hour, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could do it in less than 15 minutes once everything is working smoothly.

Congratulations to you as well!

Did they go through the car looking for missing items, spares, tools, doors, seats? For the guys that want to pick it clean.

Will let everyone know the address for sure!! I am checking my spam folder constantly.

I got nothing, no email reminder, no phone call zilch in terms of notification. I answered my phone every call I got the last few days and everything was IRS / Credit Card scam calls

I did get a reminder email today of my upcoming buyback appt (Friday). Nothing of substance really, just confirming date and time.

Thanks to OP for the write up. Very helpful to me to know what to expect when I go in. I cleaned the car out today and felt a little sad.

Thanks for blazing a trail the rest of us will be following.

Our turn is on the 1st at 1 PM. The wife received a phone call from our dealership today confirming our buyback time. They also chatted about the loyalty bonus and if we were going to replace the vehicle. She explained that we had already done so. They even offered a shuttle ride home if we needed it.
Coincidentally an email arrived from VW today explaining about the scheduling time zone error with confirmation of the correct time.

A month from now this will all be routine.

Glad someone else did it today ! I overhead them saying they all went to the same training which was done by a Canadian company. (they were commenting on the instructors pronunciation)

I am guessing you got the same answer on the EFT? I would feel better if they were telling everyone the same thing. I agree once they get the hang of this they could crank these out real quick!

I should add they were exceptionally friendly offering me water, coffee drinks etc... I asked about beer and they said not yet!

Guess mine is next, this Friday @ 4pm. If anything differs from the process that Wildcharl documented I will note it.

I will keep everyone posted

Another thing I did before I drove it out the garage was (aside from praying for no accidents on the way or HPFP failure) was a quick once over of the engine since the car had sat for almost a month. The battery was on a tender , I popped the cover checked for mice or other critters, checked the serpentine belt real quick and idled it for a few minutes before going

For the folks who have theirs parked I would suggest moving it, the first mile it felt like the tires had developed flat spots but it smoothed out and the TPMS light went out.

I have already been checking mine. I have been finding nut shell fragments on top of the battery box, so I put a big mothball thing in there (sprinkled some cayenne pepper at the same time). I put the packaging in my new car, and for a few days it smelled like urinal cake :(.

I had noticed some tire roughness a few weeks back when I drove the car, which as you say evened out after a mile or two.

My buyback is Friday and I did receive both a phone call and email today confirming the appointment. Along with some info on what to expect and who I will be meeting upon arrival, this was also said -

"If you are planning on getting another vehicle to replace it with please let me know what you're looking for so I can have something lined up for you to look at"

Nope. He verified that the VIN matched the paperwork, checked that it started up, and took 4 photos: front, side, VIN, and tach (with it running). He never even opened the hood or tailgate (nor 3 of the doors).

Exactly the same. As a matter of fact, while the settlement specialist was on the phone getting the answer, I happened to open this thread on my phone. At almost the same moment I read the phrase "I am assuming its Chase" in your message, he said "Okay, an email from Chase" over the phone and wrote "Chase" on his notepad. A weird bit of synchronicity.

So an UPDATE!!!

I just got a call (930pm here) From Volkswagen Settlement (844-982-5246) asking me how everything went. She said they had a glitch today where peoples date/times were showing tmrw.

I asked her about the email regarding the EFT and she said I would have it in the next several days from CHASE.

She said she was so glad things went well because I was "number fifteen out of half a million people" and she said she hopes everyone else goes smooth

Mine never opened the hood either come to think of it
