Fan induction mechanism for intake

I'm having trouble getting my (fan induction system?) for the intake to work properly and then the check engine light comes on. The car seems to run okay. It sure was dirty in there which I have cleaned up. Is there some place I can exchange this thing for a rebuilt one or do I just have to pay the $600 for a new one.
