No problem advertising multiple items in one posting, in fact it's encouraged for smaller items. Be sure to spell out the details including price and location and include pics

Thanks, I get the details/price/location/photos etc. I've been around for awhile, but my question was about two complete cars in one For Sale add, which aren't exactly small ;)

Reckon you gotta participate in some discussions before posting in the classifieds.. Keeps the drifters and curbstoners at bay....

Hi everyone!
I'm new here! But I've lurked about the last couple of months. The reason being that I've been considering selling my 2003 Jetta TDI (4-door, 5-speed, sedan, dark grey). It finally broke the 54,000 ODO last month and currently, a little over 55,000 ODO (I'll get the exact reading and post it). I drove it down from Oregon to Los Angeles in February, when I moved.
It runs great. Has a crack in the windshield and that is its only physical issue. I'll be more specific once I do post the thread. I just wanted to post a feeler here, first. Quite frankly, I need the money and am in an area of L.A. where I can get around via on foot or by Uber. And know that within the next 6-months I can just purchase a newish car if I need to. Until then, thinking of putting this wonderful car (I love this car), up for sale in the area of $3400.
What say anyone here who knows about this stuff? Any input is welcome. Or even offers.

Thanks for the post

Thanks for posting about buying and selling.
I am a newbie who is posting to sell an old car.
I have read through TDIclub posts in the past when seeking information about the car.

I have a 2001 TDI Jetta 5 speed with 305K miles. I just drove it 1000 miles and would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. It has the rust on the front fenders and the interior issues. The engine and transmission are in great condition. I have driven it for 10+ years and put on 210K+ miles. It is good for parts or with maintenance good for another 100k miles. The timing belt was done at 250K with the complete 100k parts. I have a 2011 TDI to replace it with and wish to sell the 2001. Not wanting to give it away or get top dollar, just a fair price. If any one is interested let me know. I will be driving it to Eastern PA this week but after it will be available. It is the dark green color, never wrecked but not in new condition. It is located in central Ohio. Any questions just ask.

good thread BTW,
Well I'm new to TDI's but I come from a VW family. I read all 3 pages of this thread and I want a medal from Tom.
I think that people selling their TDI's are like people selling their houses. Folks think their's is the best and don't understand why the world isn't banging down their door to buy it at top dollor prices.
I'm looking for a lower mile TDI wagon (Jetta or Passat), automatic, and in the lower $teens. Before you all laugh me off the list, know that I have time and I love the thrill of the hunt. It took me 8 months of daily searching to find my 1987 VW Syncro Vanagon. It's a 1/2 camper and had 260K miles on it then and has 330K miles on it now. (I'd work in a trade if your interested.) Wish me luck.
Now for the accranims. These are what I've figured out so far.
TDI = Turbo direct Injection (duh)
TB = Timing Belt, (This is important cuz I'm guessing if it breaks the valves fall into the head and everything gets ground to bits.. Right?)

MFA = Married, Female, actuator?
EGR = Elderly Grandpa Regulator?
Help me out here.

Really great post. I enjoyed it on several levels.

I have been in the group since '02. You guys have helped me a great deal with TDI issues, and now I am considering selling my '99 beetle. I will post on the group first in case a member can make use of it. Hopefully it will be a "win" for buyer and I prefer that a win go to a member, not someone on ebay.

While I have been a member a few years, I am not really that well versed in the machinations of the website. In the event that I do sell it can someone please advise me on how I can donate to the cause? (I am really hoping right now it is not the snake obviously at me feet ready to bite!))

Hi all..new member, but have been a fan of the site for a while. I currently own a 77 beetle convertible, a 99 Eurovan Westy and an 04 jetta wagon tdi

now for the sad news. I have hit a rough patch in my life and am selling off. tears won't help me make ends meet and besides, later in life I can rebuy things I loved right?

Anyway, I plan on posting my wagon for sale here. I read the tips and have listened to my mechanic too, so hopefully I can get some pics and get Gilbert out there. I came here as opposed to Ebay because honestly I want someone who will put in all the work that is needed and love him. He is not a for parts kind of guy. I think if i knew that was the intention I may just change my mind. Cuz love, you know?

Hopefully by letting you all hear me before posting you can see I am not looking to turn a profit or take advantage of someone's desire to own a tdi. I just want a good home for my man.

thanks all,
sad in seattle

I have a 2005 TDI, with 230,000 (?) miles on it. Great car, leather seats, sunroof, new Continental tires, new transmission, work done by TDI mechanics on this site. Has class 3 hitch, braking system, put on by CanAm Rv in London , Ontario (3 generations hitch specialist) new heater core, lots of work. Richard at Kansas City TDI did some work (EGR removed) , and other work in Santa FE, and Massachusetts. I love this car, drives beautifully. It needs a new Turbo and I need a car I can work on more easily, or I need to find a husband who works on them. But not sure that will happen so quickly. Hate to give it up. But not sure what to ask for it. Any questions or suggestions?

Thanks for the advice. I’m a newbie and I read it cause I’m thinking of parting ways with my 98 Jetta which runs and drives well, but needs more repairs then it’s worth. I’m only looking for few hundred for it.

I'm a newbie and I read it!! ;-)
Though i joined in 2014 I consider myself a newbie. It was super helpful back then in helping me find a mechanic (Mark Talbot of Berryville, VA). I just bought a 2017 Golf Alltrac and now time to sell my beloved 2005 Jetta TDI wagon (manual; 164,000k). That post was helpful.

I'm kind of a newbie but read your post. Even from 12 years ago, it resonates today. I will be selling soon a 2015 Jetta TDI that was my father in laws car. He recently passed away so I am trying to help out the mother-in-law. Ironically his car is almost the same car I have and have posted about on this site down to the color! His is a year newer but has many more miles. All maintenance was done in Albuquerque at the VW dealer there. As soon as I have all the details about the TDI I will post and if not sold here maybe I could get some direction on getting it sold. The vehicle currently is located close to Albuquerque but I live in Georgetown, Texas. So one question I would have for the forum is where is the market better? Albuquerque or close to Austin, Texas?

Thoughts?

thank you for your assistance.

I'd ask this question in TDI 101 general questions, or just advertise it and see what happens, I seriously doubt there is much of a difference between Texas and New Mexico as far as sales go.

Newbie here, great advice for buyers and sellers. I am going to post my Sportwagon for sale on this forum so I get a fair price and the car goes to an enthusiast who will appreciate and enjoy the 6 spd manual transmission.

Well, I read the "read this first" and found it great, thanks. Now, do I have a snowballs chance in you know what of finding a wagon? I have no idea how to go about finding this car...would never buy one off of ebay, and is it really worth it to travel? I am 4 hours from everywhere, in Elko, Nevada...

Hi everyone. I was here back in the early days of TDIClub before FB or even myspace BUT I no longer have that email so I couldn't retrieve my old password I've since forgotten so I created a new ID. ...and no worries because a this point our 'original owner' 2002 TDI Jetta is NOT for sale ;) ..fortunately enough we found what we needed today from this community and are driving 5 hours away to pick it up this weekend! ...so Thanks TDICluB! Keep up the great work! Love having this forum still active after all these years!

Im sad to say I've lost one of the best engines ever to a timing belt. Its time I finally put my 2004 5sp Jetta up for sale. Was thinking of doing an engine swap, but my partner is not about to have me in the garage upgrading the intercooler, getting a few turbo, etc. The car sits on h&r springs, koni's, vnt17, panzer plate, malone tune, upgraded transmission and a bunch of other fun bits. If you're interested, let me know. $1000

Posting a 'feeler' thread is fine, but if you toss up that your car is for sale the first post is most likely going to be "Price?".
If posting a feeler thread without a price is fine, then why is my feeler post being unfairly threatened with deletion? I am 4 pages in and there are at least half a dozen posts for sale without a price. "FS 2 - 1996 Passat B4Vs (wagons)" was posted in Jan, asked about price and didn't give one till April. Why am I being harassed and attacked?
It seems there are no "rules" in darkscout's post but rather suggestions and advice. I followed the spirit of most of the advice by providing a whole lot of extra data/info and being open/honest about what's not right. Markets change and every buyer/seller is different so we shouldn't force things to be one way or face deletion. This campy suggestive post is 14 years old and by a member who hasn't been seen in 3 years. The market is nothing like it was. But it seems some have viewed this post as a gospel, or edict which they use as a tool to bully and harass other members creating a hostile and unfriendly environment. Some folks seem to go from post-to-post purely to attack people over these non-rules and are not actually interested in buying. They're more interested in being a forum cop and not the cool kind.
Acting as if a popular advice post is the law is confusing and disturbing and its over something completely inconsequential. The two interested parties will work it out without any need for threats of deletion. Attacking and harassing harms the morale of the forum and creates a hostile environment and it prevents good people from finding good TDIs. I'm doing nothing different than these posts:

The fact that these "cops" are not attacking ALL these posts for no price listed means something else is going on. They're not enforcing rules.

Deleting my post will only prevent a prospective buyer from getting what they want. My vehicle will sell somewhere. As noted by darkscout, you're not going to get anything past someone here, there are gurus everywhere and they will break your car down. I welcome it. This also means lower prices. I took a chance at accepting a lower offer here with the knowledge the vehicle will go to a good home for many more years of service. If I'm going to be harassed and attacked for doing nothing wrong I'll just leave.
