I just lost 5th on my way in to work in my 2002 MkIV Jetta. Due to time constraints and some other repairs that are coming up, I may need to pick up a second vehicle in the next day or two so I can spend an appropriate amount of time getting things fixed up all at once (I tow a 13' travel trailer, so I'd like to keep the car for a bit unless the dealer offers more than they should).
I'll probably end up picking up a 2011+ Jetta TDI with a manual transmission and leather interior, or possibly a Golf. Ideally I'd like to keep it under $12K. My experience is with the ALH MkIV vehicles and VR6 Eurovans. I haven't looked into anything newer than the ALH.
What are things I should look out for with these cars?
What is the timing belt interval?
Transmission fluid interval?
Common issues?
Things I should look for with VAG-COM?
How are the maintenance costs and reliability compared to the MkIVs?
I apologize if this has been asked a million and a half times. I don't really have the time to search a lot for the information at the moment and I may need to buy this in the next day or two.
Thanks for taking the time to read/respond.
