new to me 2005 Passat TDI for about a month, once in awhile going to lock doors with the fob and it will lock all the doors except the driver's door so I use the key as well the former owner since new mentioned that it does that occasionally , unlocks no problem but I would like to sort this out, any help from the TDI forum gurus would be appreciated

Probably the module under the driver seat/carpet got wet and is now acting up.

use a vag-com to lock and unlock the doors and see the results, that's where I would start, that should rule out the CCM

I think it's going to be the actual door latch and not the module since it's only that one acting up.

Find someone local and scan it, it will show.

I have the same issue - but with the passenger door. I have had it for years - the lock will work for a little while, then stick in either the open or closed position. I think that it is the actual mechanism in your case also.
