Broken Antenna Elbow Connector fix?

My coax elbow connector for radio is broke, plastic is completely gone and the metal pieces surrounding center part are broke. If i hold the connection just right into the back of it the reception is good. I keep reading conflicting info on this ive heard someone say you cant splice a new connector or pigtail onto the VW coax and ive heard of other people finding a crimp or solder type connector and others say you can just buy an adapter and use one of the ends to make a new elbow end on my existing coax.

Just trying to find someone who knows for sure whats going on here, rather then me jus buying some adapter and it not working. Thanks.
