Here is one a little different. I had the ABS light on my 2002 Jetta TDI come on and off, and then on constantly. 4 Days later the brake wear pad came on, even though there was ample pad life left. Upon removing the driver's side tire, I found the strut boot that also has the wire holders for these sensors had turned 90 degrees, putting the wires for these sensors against the tire. The friction frayd the coating and then the wire, causing a short in the wires and subsequent false indicators.
Using a pipe wrench, I turned the boot back to position, spliced the wires and put a rubber shrink tube over the repair for water proofing.
Anyone else had this problem?
Let me know.
