oil change: filler cap or filter canister?

I just did my 10,000 mile oil change a couple days ago. When I was getting ready to add the oil, and looking for a funnel, I thought to myself "self, the oil filter canister hole is probably big enough to hit without a funnel", so I poured my gallon of delvac 1 into the oil filter canister, and once it gurgled in, put the filter in and tightened the cap. I never even took the oil filler cap off.

Anyone see a problem with doing this?

"Less FILLING!"

I have tried both ways for adding oil. Depends on how lazy I am at that particular moment in time - because the 20 foot walk to fetch a funnel might be overcome by the energy expenditure required to grab a beer instead.

More of a convenience than a better / not better way to do it.

neither!!!

jack rear of car up about 2.5 to 3 metres, pour fresh oil in through the exhaust pipe, wait for it to settle in the crankcase, lower car, check dipstick.

(don't forget to make car loan payments in the meantime)
