State: GA

Additional VCDS (version 16.8.2) data points:
4.2g Soot (calc)
0.0g Soot (meas)
1 Requested Regens
2.4l Fuel consumption since last regen
30km distance since last regen
48 time since last regen (minutes)

Remarks:
My P0401 (EGR insufficient flow) code/check-engine light has now been on constantly for probably the last 30K miles/18 months. Soot at tail pipe. Pretty certain DPF is cracked.

Back in late spring or so I had a month+ where car was doing extended 30+ minute regens multiple times per week (~250 miles avg weekly commute) -- this was quite concerning given dieselgate fiasco/uncertainty. I do NOT know if this is related, but I fixed a P2015 error code with the Diesel Geek motor stop insert early in the summer. For many months now regens have thankfully been much more normal; no more worryingly long ones, nor excessively frequent.

Any speculation if or how these could be related?

Wonder if that's accurate? Mostly because it's cracked. But then I've been dumping so much optilube it's almost pointless to stop for diesel....
And we now have an official winner, folks!

Towards the end ash level stopped increasing, and I was dumping in 16oz of super tech 2 stroke on every tank, and it would still always show zero for measured soot.

That thing was so ridiculously cracked. Such fragile components....

Otherwise I see DPF deletes in many people's future or dumping their CR VW (which is a shame b/c this car is awesome) for possibly Mazda Sky-D.

305,000 miles, zero regens, zero problems.

Why am I just find this thread now. I had the DPF cleaned back in November, but i drive maybe 15 min at a time now, so it was only a matter of time before i started to get the warnings.

So a forced regen yesterday, then two long hour + drives at high way speeds. I haven't checked numbers this morning. Coffee first.

wouldn't be better to collect info about pressure difference as measure for clean DPF?

I recently swapped DPF nor a new one...old one had pressure restriction 200mbar...turbo must have pumped more hard...normal pressure difference suppose to be 30mbar

Furthermore, DPF older than 4 years has no more precious metals to react with...it is simply just soot collector and dead cat.

My 12 years old DPF had 0% of palladium or platinum.

There are no precious metals in a DPF, it's a block off filter.

catalytic convertor + DPF in VW...both things together, which means precious metals for oxidation ;-)

Default Emissions Workshop

My car is a 2005 Passat, 2.0 TDI
I have become very intimate with her, I have stripped her down several times, and when I'm done she still responds the same way, Emissions workshop!
I have replaced the fuel\vacuum pump
Turbo, the mass air flap, the inter cooler hose from turbo, the silver domed vacuum reservoir, all vacuum lines, the cylinder head, I have cleaner the air sensor just before the engine, and changed the oil, and even gave her a kiss.
How do I clear this Emissions workshop?
The head was the problem, two valve failures, with the new head it starts up right away, not even one turn, I have the OBDeleven, that can clear codes but how can I clear the Emissions Workshop?
