We are looking at possibly trading in our '14 Jetta TDI for a bigger AWD diesel, and the Q7s and T-regs come to mind.
I found a couple 2010 models in the area that have had "the fix" done late last year; one with over 160K miles and around $9k, and one with 94K miles for around $13k. The more expensive one also has HIDs and a few other goodies.
The Carfax reports are generally clean (no accidents, etc) but the lower priced one includes the "engine removed" as part of a repair, which naturally concerns me. I've spent time here reading that almost anything to do with the timing chain probably requires either the whole front end to come off or the engine to come out. This may be what happened here as well.
I'm looking for advice from our resident specialists, such as @Oilhammer, and other experienced Q7 owners regarding what I should be on the lookout for. The dealer has five Q7s on hand but I'm only looking at these two specifically because trading the Jetta wouldn't put me upside down (ideally).
Should I be worried about timing chain issues? Suspension components near end of life? Transmission maintenance that may be overlooked? Other things that any of you have noticed that you wished you had noticed before you picked up your Q7?
I've had a couple Audis in my day, plenty of VWs, and I know generally what to expect. But these tanks are big beasts and I hadn't been considering them in the past, so I neglected to learn much about them.
Thanks, all, in advance.
