After replacing the heater core of my son's 1999.5 Golf TDI and putting everything back together, there are two error codes reported by VCDS (plus several others related to the central locking system -- the complete log file is below), the airbag light is illuminated as well as the MIL. The airbag problem is a known issue--my son broke the wiring harness when pulling the airbag off the steering wheel, but I don't know what to think about the P1694 error. Is it a real problem, or is it just saying the MIL is illuminated because the airbag system is not happy?

We're going to buy a new wiring harness.
Any clues what I should (or should not) do about the other error code?

Thanks!

For the MIL code. open up the blue connector(IIRC) and its one of the last pins. If the car had coolant migration at some point it will collect at that pin and rot the wire off. Had that issue with my 99.5.

The airbag code is probably just a bad connection some place.
