This newbie got to "TDI CLUB" because I liked seeing the
"awesome" 47 mpg posted on www.fueleconomy.gov for TDI Jetta 5-door wagon.

Well that ain't awesome no more ! Check this out:

That's a VW car, with a 3-cylinder TDI, and if its a little too tiny (like "SUV-Fatso" said, Lupo just a hood ornament for Navigator) then you may definitely go bigger... get a VW "POLO" .

Website is well-worth viewing. Don't forget, go over
there and sign the petition.

Hey, I made it to the VW dealership, snitched a brochure and sat in a brand new Jetta. Nope, not convinced. Loaded to the rafters with all that tack-on-tinsel, power windows, power locks, 8 air bags, air conditioning. Strip all that junk outta there, cut the price by 5 grand, and I'll take another look at it . Or somebody just import me a brand new "POLO", I want more "MPG" and less "$$$ sticker price $$$" .

You’ll get plenty of support here; but VW will never do it. By the time they add the weight of all the NA safety equipment, and de-tune the engines to meet our emission standards, I am guessing that you would see mpg just about in the current Jetta/Golf/NB range anyhow.
