I think the GSW feels quicker than the NMS and the wagon layout is nice for carrying big "stuff". It is more updated than the NMS.

NMS is more comfortable and I think it is a little quieter. The bigger tank on the NMS has a significantly (200 mile or so) greater cruising range. I like a trunk to hide stuff in although I rarely carry anything of value. The clock.....

If you ever have rear passengers for any decent time or long highway runs, NMS all the way. If you're more into handling and the "hot hatch" aspect, GSW is hard to beat.

Don't let the 1 model year thing bug you, the MQB is pretty darn robust only down fall is the MIB 1 is pretty dated now (but so is anything that came in the NMS TDIs).

How much do you like kids in car seats kicking the back of your seat, while you're in traffic?

Not me so much.

When my kids were small, I found that reaching around and squeezing the offending ankle put a stop to the seat kicking. Only took a couple of times. YMMV of course. :)

well if you get a wagon and a pet barrier, the hatch is also an option too, bit more of a challenge if you cart adults around.

my friend shut me down on the GSW... and I agree, the room in the NMS cannot be beat even in todays cars- so, im finding that a $10,000 Passat SE+nav (gotta have the fog lights) in mint condition with regular oil changes is quite the challenge!

Was our '12 SE+Nav, it had 80K when we gave it back, it was a 9/10 condition, one minor fender bender right rear quarter that was professionally repaired, decent rubbers but also needed an oil change and DSG, ohhh and it has a back up camera, lets see if you find another '12 with a back up camera!

See if you can find it.

I added the 15 camera and coded it into my 315 too ;)

Don't think it was a "'15 camera" persay, it was just a parts bin item that VW always had just didn't install due to saving it as a reason for people to look at a newer car. I installed ours back in 2013. Either way it was a great $250-300 mod, and one of the reasons I convinced myself to get VCDS.

true, the coding thread has sure gone silent, its the best thing to discover! Hazards with anti lock was the best one for me, saved my A$$ many times in freeway stop and go! Really gets peoples attention. Coded my coworkers gasser, threw water on his window and watched all his windows close was classic, and he bought me a case of beer for doing it!

well I pulled the trigger on a nice 2015 SEL, found it 500 miles away and the owner didn't sell it from under me as he had other local interest and even met me half way! How cool is that!

That's our twin! Government Issued Gray as I call it to the wife, she hates that reference, she'd much rather have found another Tungsten as her '12 was.

Congrats, JRM! Nice to see you found an SEL TDi Passat!

Read your story from the first post tonight (12/15). Happy to hear your wife

was OK, thanks to the solid structural integrity of a German Engineered car.

I too would replace mine with another TDi NMS Passat if something happened to it.

thanks! I really like the SEL, really like the HD radio and trying to unlock the video in motion feature tonight. Another thing, Either the previous owner had a rostech cable or this car came with auto wipers enabled- kinda nice
