ECU removal 2000 AJM golf 115hp PD

Hi,
If I remove my ECU to check for dry joints broken wire etc (see lower post start but won't run) will I loose any info on there and have to get it installed again?

You might lose the DTC's but nothing crucial. You can unplug and plug it in so you want...

Thanks for the quick response. I only asked as my manual said that it would have to have basic setting info reinstalled by VW. Cheers eddieleephd. Can you offer any advice on the my other post" starts but won't run " please?

What would be the difference between pulling the ECU and disconnecting the battery?
I wonder if the trip-odometer would be lost?
