• The TDIClub classifieds section is a heavily trafficked section of the forum that encompasses want-to-buy (WTB) and for-sale (FS) threads for the entire world. Due to the demanding nature and fast pace of this section, it is imperative that you know and understand the rules. It is also important to remember that this is the only parts classifieds section.

Cross-posting and posting classifieds in the regional sections (except the dedicated thread in Ontario) is not permitted.

Multiple items should be sold in one thread. Make sure to provide a description for all items in your post along with pictures and prices. If you start multiple threads with individual items, they will be locked or combined at the discretion of the moderators.

Here is a quick outline of the classifieds section rules. If you don't follow these rules, you subject yourself to thread deletion, thread combination, infractions, or posting privilege revocation.

    Thread titles:
    • Put FS or WTB in your thread title. This will let other users know if you are selling or buying.
    • Briefly describe what you are selling. Thread titles have limited space. Be as descriptive, yet succinct, as possible.
    • Put your location in the title.
    • If space allows, put your price in the title

Title example (single item): "FS: 2004 Mk4/BEW cylinder head - Portland, OR - $500"
Title example (multiple items): "FS: MK6 fog lights, front bumper, headlights, grill - Detroit, MI"
Title example (car part-out): "FS: Mk3 Jetta parting out engine & interior - Dallas, TX"

    Thread text descriptions and pictures:
    • All for-sale threads must include pictures of the items that you are selling. One picture is sufficient, but multiple pictures with different angles will help buyers. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you don't know how to post pictures on TDIClub, see this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=286691
    • All for-sale threads must include a description. We don't charge per-word, so be as descriptive as possible. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for buyers.
    • All for-sale threads must include a price. Auctions and bidding are not allowed. If you want to auction something off, use eBay.
No picture, no price, NO SALE!

    Thread maintenance/updates/bumps:
    • When you sell something, update your thread with "SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title.
    • If you have multiple items for sale, update your thread as each item has been sold. When everything has been sold, updated the thread with "ALL ITEMS SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title when all items have been sold.
    • If you bump your thread, please delete old bumps by clicking on EDIT and then deleting the old bump. This will reduce clutter in your thread and make it easier to read. It also makes you look less desperate.
    • If you drop your price, please update your first post in addition to posting the new price. If you would like the thread title changed, click on the report post icon and let a moderator know what you would like the title changed to.

    Moderator intervention and infraction points:
Moderators will be monitoring the classifieds section. If a moderator determines that you have not been following the rules listed above, corrections will be made and infraction points will be assessed to your account.

What is an infraction point? Simple - it's a system of keeping track of user behavior. A moderator can assign a point value based on the severity of the infraction, as well as an expiration date on the points assessed. If you accumulate a certain number of points, the system will auto-ban you for a predefined amount of time. The more points you accumulate, the longer your ban period will be.

One example of points is as follows: multiple threads will be combined into a single thread, with the number of infraction points assessed corresponding to the number of threads merged. If we merge four threads into one, then you will be assessed four points that expire in 30 days. When you reach five points, the system will auto-ban you for one day.*

*This is an example based on the current infraction system structure. We reserve the right to modify the infraction system at any time without notice or updates to this announcement.

Thank you for your cooperation, and good luck with your sales and searches! :)

Wanted - Ventecomy Parts

Sounds weird, right?

I’ve done the ventecomy on no less than 3 TDI’s over the years, and do you think I can find the removed parts? I keep everything unless it really is trash - have a box for each different vehicle. My shop really is organized.

So looking for said parts for an MK4 to put back in our 1999 New Beetle. Willing to pay a reasonable token amount plus the shipping charge.

The long story.....

Our Beetle Bug now has a fuel leak. After lots of trial and error we have determined it is a vent line at the top of the tank.

First time I noticed it was when filling the tank. All was fine and good. Then of course after the pump clicked off I started topping off slowly as we do. A little more...a little more...until I noticed a puddle forming underneath.

By the time I got home 8 miles down the road it wasn’t leaking anymore.

Next time filling up I quit when the pump kicked off. No puddle - great!
But then the next day I had the state inspection done. While underneath the tech saw the rear of the tank wet. Here to find out that when the tank is full, and running on the rough roads around here, the sloshing of the fuel was just intermittently seeping from the top of the tank. He also noticed the evidence of a mouse nest hanging over from the top of the tank.

The shop owner was very nice to me. He didn’t pass it but told me if I take at least 1/2 the fuel out and come back he would pass it for me. Said he was only doing it because it was a diesel - would never do it for gas.

So a year has gone by and have kept the tank below 1/2 and not one sign of a leak. But it drives me nuts not to have my tanks full all the time especially since the Beetle Bug sits for months at a time.

My theory - if I reinstall the ventectomy parts I may be able to fill it up until it clicks off and have no leaks. I figured for a few bucks since I obviously need to pay someone for their parts would be well worth it to me. I just don’t have the money to pay the shop to drop the tank and fix it and just can’t do work like this myself anymore.

Sorry for the long rant - just wanted to explain why I need these parts.

I'd be surprised if that fixes it, you should look at the seal at the top of the tank and the vent line...

If you can wait I'll pull the guts out of mine and just pay shipping...not sure when I'll get it out though...maybe this weekend.

The vent part likely will not matter, I'd just fix it properly. Not that big of a deal really.

It is more likely the seal at the sending unit that is leaking, and that is super easy to fix.

It's not the seal at the fuel lines under the seat. Checked and double checked that.

Looking at this diagram which I know isn't the correct one for mine - where #17 is pointing - the center of that flat portion is where it is leaking from. There are 2 vent line coming from the fuel filler neck that go there.

That is why I thought I would try this - if I get the tank to leave that expansion space like it was originally I feel it won't leak anymore.

oilhammer - you told me in another thread that the R&R for the fuel tank is 3.5 hours. Paying the shop $70 per hour that is $245 right there before the actual fix. Just doesn't seem right at this point to put $300-$400 into a car that is worth $500.

wildchild80 - I've been waiting with this for a year now - time I have plenty of. If you do end up taking yours out send me a PM. I certainly appreciate it!

I am getting more and more confident that this may work.
I took the Beetle Bug to get state inspection yesterday then got some fuel. Calculated how much to put in to give me 3/4 tank.
35 miles home on fairly rough roads in places. Jacked it up and removed a rear wheel and took a good look - no sign of leaking or seepage at all.
I feel putting the ventectomy parts back in I will be able to fill the tank until the pump clicks off and have no leak.

Maybe the car would be worth more than $500 if it wasn't leaking fuel? :p

Sad, but hey I cannot save them all. I sure try though.

If you can jack the car up and remove a wheel, you could probably drop the beam and slide the tank out yourself. It is not very hard.

You will need to bleed the brakes when done, as the lines need to come loose. Beam is super easy to R&R.

Probably worth more than $500 I guess. Only 135k miles without a lick of rust on it. Timing belt was done in 2017 - about 1000k miles on it since.

Taking my time I can do some stuff - like I have to do the rear brakes to pass inspection due to rust. I can sit in a stool and work on that for 1/2 hour at a time. But I can’t work underneath something with my hands above my head. Rheumatoid Arthritis gives me a lot of limits.

I know...I know...fix it right or don’t bother. I am like that with all my equipment. But the poor Beetle Bug is a different story for some reason. It is actually my wife’s car who hasn’t been able to drive for the past 2-3 years. I don’t know if she will ever be able to drive again. So I don’t want to put a lot of money/effort into it when it just sits eventually to be sold. As it is the last 2 years it has gotten 500 miles on it which is only me taking it to town once in a while just to keep the fluids moving. I don’t like driving it as it sits so close to the ground - I have a very hard time getting out of it. I really love driving my pickup however.
