Hello,

I'm thinking about jumping into TDI ownership and have found a vehicle that looks very well cared for, but the asking price seems high based on KBB value. Here's the Craigslist post: https://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/5185541640.html

Is KBB undervaluing at 6k? What would be a fair price for private seller?

Follow up question: why should I get TDI instead of a Honda Insight?

Couple of thoughts,
What the car is worth and what someone will pay is the question. I paid 6 grand for pkg 2 car with 171,000 miles, owner was already stabbed by EGR valve, DMF flywheel,
Camshaft and lifters.........
Couple of flags for me, he did timing belt(did he or a mechanic) 1 o-ring gasket on pump
mentions gas mileage, no diesel owner says gas mileage.
06 known for camshaft failure, no mention
Car is clean with low miles, offer $7,000 see what happens

So, if it is a great car with great gas mileage, why would the owner be selling it?

turbo,
camshaft,
if it had a bad flywheel then, engine harness troubles, maybe

Who did the the previous work and what were the parts replaced with (Ebay specials?)

Factory recommended oil may be 5W30 instead of 5W40
5000 mile oil changes are too frequent.

Too much dough for it.

Will you be able to do your own work?

Maybe the seller wants something better in his or her eyes.. 117K in 10 year could be a diesel car is not for the seller.. As for the low mileage and high price, tell him/her to eat a...... its too high for that 10 year old car...

PS I'll say gas sometimes instead of fuel or diesel.. Just saying...
