TDI into Ford Ranger ? ?

Hi all -- I'm getting a little TDI crazy, I'll admit -- but since I'm making consistently good biodiesel now, was wondering what it would take to put a TDI into my 1993 Ford Ranger. It currently has a V-6 4.0 and an automatic tranny. I would rather ask now than later (after its been sold for being a gasser:eek: )... Trying to get my whole "fleet" moved over to diesel to fully embrace the $$ saving component of having a local biodiesel co-op being run out of my garage! ~ Brett :p

Full Toyota drivetrain swap, except for the engine.

Better bet is a Benz OM617 turbo - full drivetrain. Helps that the wheelbases are VERY close between the W123 and the Ranger. Doesn't help that the OM617 is longer than any factory Ranger engine.

hey I am interested in doing a similar swap. hit me up when you get started maybe we can exchange info. I was looking to do one on either a Ranger or a Nissan. I've owned both and I'm thinking about going with the Nissan. Thanks and hope to hear from you.

You might also want to consider a TDi 250 or 300 from a range rover. They are very good engines from what I've been told. The rub is you have to bring them over yourself or pay an importer.

the ford ranger was actually available with a 2.0 mazda diesel for a few years. Instead of trying to get a TDI in there, you might consider finding one of these engines; I had one in my escort, and they mate up with the ford tranny.

The Mazda diesel in the Ranger was a 2.2L motor. Timing gears (good), it'll run forever, but OHV (not necessarily BAD), 59 hp (very bad), and not much torque, IIRC.

There was also a 2.3L Mitsubishi turbodiesel, this one being OHC, using a timing belt, and with 86 hp. This one will be faster than an early 2.3L gasser Ranger (which also had 86 horsepower).
