2009 VW Jetta DSG TDI SportWagen-3M tinted windows all windows to meet specs set by police for Utah-helps in the desert heat-BIG TIME!
Hell- I met a dealer on here and he sold me a Jetta SPORTWAGON with a lot of extras. I finished the. Uyba k program. Ut up up against a problem.

I did get a new car and I have tried to get it insured. Sounds odd since I saved a lot of my plates growing up for various reasons.

One GEICO agent right off said no I can't give you insurance until you get rid of the plates legally. Oh man I thought this is endless.

I tried another agent and he transferred my insurance but when I was done I received an email about if I don't dispose of the plates legally o could have a big fine. My registration expires the last day of April. I asked the dealer where I got the new car and he said he could not take them. Remember I sold my car through a VW buyback specialist. I asked her and all she said was to make sure you remove the plates.

The dealer who sold me a new car told me I will get new plates and stickers for the registration.

Any advice?

This will be different in every state, so maybe put your state in the question and title?

Have you asked the people who deal with license plate stuff all day, the DMV?

VW does not transfer the vehicles from buyback right away. I reported the sale to the DMV the next day myself.

You need to take the plates to the license plate agency and surrender them.
In NC they give receipts for all valid plates and you get nothing for expired plates.

If you have plates from another state you should be able to mail them.

are you meaning the DMV? If the registration expired 2 days after I sold the car to VW for buyback do I till need to go to the DMV and surrender the plates?

Why are you telling an insurance agent you have some old plates from a previous car? You were told your getting new plates for your new car. That should be all the info they need. The VW rep was probably a Nevada resident. In NV you keep the plates from your car when you sell it. Every state has different rules.
