I get better than 29mpg with my Mk6 Stg3 R
Please don't make me feel worse :(

Only thing that makes me sleep better is that it take 87 and I made up my mileage woes on my long but not forgotten 2010TDI.

I was in the service department this morning and the writer said they have not heard of anything as of yet. He did sat that I would hear of any news before him. Not sure how much truth there is in that.

I got to thinking about this.... The longer they wait to roll it out the less cars there will be with under 40,000 miles. That would significantly reduce VWoAs costs.

It about how many miles or years they must make the new stuff last, and they can say the old stuff durability wise is ok with the post fix duty cycle in the short term...

Approved and having all the parts on hand to install on thousands of cars are two different things. They have to have time to make thousands of parts and get them out to the dealers and have the procedures/instructions in place for the "fix" to be done, after it is approved.

Misunderstood is my middle name. As I get older I may have to change it to my FIRST name.

Here is what IDParts has said about the fix "strategy". I'll be waiting as long as possible within the window to get it done and looking at about 30k per year at this point so should have 60k or more when I get done.

---------------------

What is the Extended Warranty Period?

The minimum emissions warranty on these components is 162,000 miles, or 11 years. Regardless of your mileage or vehicle age at the time of the repair, that is the minimum warranty for your vehicle.

After the fix is performed, the emissions warranty on the new components WILL BE EXTENDED as follows.

5 years/60,000 miles from the date of the Phase 1 modification.
Extended to an additional 5 years/60,000 miles from the date the Phase 2 modification.
Here are some examples that apply this policy.

If your vehicle has is 2 years old and 30,000 miles, your warranty remains 162,000 miles/11 years.

If your vehicle has 150,000 miles on it, however, you’ll get the 60,000 mile extension regardless, meaning your warranty will extend to 210,000 miles.

What this means is exactly what you would expect – it makes sense to wait as long as possible to get your vehicle emissions system modified.

The net effect may actually be negligible, however. The deadline for these modifications is 2019, so it isn’t actually possible to take advantage of the increase timeline and you’d need to drive 50,000 miles per year to make the mileage extension work.

From my reading of the document I have it says the 162k miles/11 years is from the in service date. So that "Regardless of your mileage or vehicle age at the time of the repair, that is the minimum warranty for your vehicle." seems somewhat badly worded. If you bought in 2014 it isn't the same as if you bought a stop sale vehicle in 2017. The 2014 vehicle has already used up some years and miles that the new 2017 hasn't.

I'm not 100% sure how the 2014's are being treated and also not sure if that is what we're referring to in this thread BUT here is the text in the literature we all (MY15) folks got with our cars. Italicized and underlined section is of most importance to our discussion here.

------------------------

Extended Emissions Warranty

Coverage

For the following Volkswagen 2.0 L TDI engine vehicles repaired by
the emissions modification recall, a warranty extension is applicable
as defined below.

- 2015 MY Beetle with engine code CVCA

- 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the
date and mileage of Phase 1 of the emissions modification.
At the time of the subsequent Phase 2 modification, the
extended warranty will be honored for 5 years or 60,000
miles, whichever occurs first, from the date and mileage of
the completion of Phase 2.

The vehicle’s original in-service date is defined as the date the vehicle
was delivered to either the original purchaser or the original lessee; or
if the vehicle was first placed in service as a “demonstrator” or
“company” car, on the date such vehicle was first placed in service.

Parts Covered Under Extended Warranty

The emissions system warranty shall cover the following parts or
systems:

- The entire exhaust after treatment system, including the Diesel
Oxidation Catalyst, the Diesel Particulate Filter, the Selective
Catalytic Reduction converter, the dosing injector and other Diesel

Got a call from my dealership and scheduled my phase 2 fix for next Tuesday. I'll probably be the guinea pig for the dealership since it sounded like they hadn't booked anyone else yet.

This sentence is applicable though. It precedes both of those statements.

"The warranty period for the “Extended Emissions Warranty” limited
warranty extension shall be the greater of:".

For me with a new stop sale it would be the first statement 162k/11 years, for someone who chose to keep their 2015 purchased in 2014 and driven all these years the second statement may be more beneficial. There is a year/mileage consideration depending on whether you bought a new stop sale 2015 or already owned one for some time and chose the fix.

Dealer just called me... I was like, "I wondered when you would call but I'm not in ANY rush to get this work done. I will reach out to my service rep after many others have gone under the knife to see how it goes. Thanks for calling though, nice to see everyone is on top of this for the VWoA TDI customers. Have a great day"

Now I wonder how many times I'm going to have to tell them I'm not coming in to get it done since I have no reason to visit the dealership until I absolutely have to get the phase 2 done (2019) or if a warranty issue comes up. Seeing as of I've already gone through the brakes and heater core warranty work + free oil service, I think I'm fairly covered. :)

if anyone wants to read more about the Phase 2 Fix - you can find it here:
https://vwdiesellookup.com/pdf/VWCourtSettlement_Emissions_Disclosure_Gen3_Final.pdf
Emissions Modification Phase 2 :
(available beginning in early 2018 )
The second part of the emissions modification will involve outfitting your
car with new emission control parts to ensure system reliability and
durability over time. If your car exceeds 40,000 miles (for automatic
transmissions) or 70,000 miles (for manual transmissions) we will install
updated emissions control system hardware - specifically a new Diesel
Particulate Filter, Diesel Oxidation Catalyst, and Selective Catalytic
Reduction Converter - that is needed to maintain emissions
performance for the full useful life (150,000 miles) of your vehicle. As
part of the Phase 2 modification, we will also install a second NOx
sensor and corresponding software to improve the performance of the
OBD system. The Phase 2 updates are expected to have no further
impact on overall vehicle reliability, durability, fuel economy, engine
sound, performance, or drivability.
You will receive a notice when Phase 2 of the emissions modification is
available for your vehicle. You should expect to receive this notice
before June 30, 2019. If your vehicle has accumulated fewer than
40,000 miles (for automatic transmissions) or 70,000 miles (for
manual transmissions) at the time of your Phase 2 update, your car will
need to have the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst replaced a second time,
before it reaches 150,000 miles. We will notify you when it is time to
bring your car in for the second catalyst replacement.
These updates will be made available at no cost to you starting in early
2018. A complimentary loaner vehicle will be available for the duration
of this modification, which is expected to take approximately 9 hours.

I got the email as well, I'm in the scheduling process. Does anyone know if the oil change is still included? If so I wonder if it can be done at a later date?

i would wager its not included as i don't think it'd need to be drained to install the new equipment. I did see coolant was included in the install parts list though.

Ask the dealer for confirmation but plan for it not to be coverd.

You mean the first oil change at 10K as part of new car purchase? Or is an oil change included as part of the phase 2 fix? Wording of your question got me a little confused.

First oil change at 10 is picked up by VWoA and can be done anytime you'd like before 10K.

It is anticipated that the 2015 model year TDI vehicles (also known as the “Generation 3 vehicles) will require two dealer visits to complete the Approved Emissions Modification. Two-thirds of the restitution payment will be paid on the first visit to the dealer, and one-third will be paid on the second visit. A free oil change also will be provided for generation three vehicles on the second dealer visit.
