Is wrapping alh exhaust manifold a good idea? I'm afraid it may crack cause of the heat, I don't know where I read it that a member did it.

Ceramic coating would be a better option than wrapping your manifold.

As far as turbo blankets...either DEI or PTP would do the trick. You could do what I did and ceramic coat your turbine housing. It was actually cheaper to ceramic coat my turbine housing than it would be to buy a T3 turbo blanket. Just my .02

Only if its stainless or ceramic coated. Not raw aluminized steel or other.

Thxs for your advice, I'm looking into ceramic coating my turbo and manifold, found a place around my neck of the wood.

I'm curious and sorry for my ignorance, does ceramic coating work better in isolating heat than wrapping or putting a blanket around it or is it just better than having nothing? And would I need to know specifically the kind of coating they'd need to put in? I imagine you asked them to put the coating on the hot side only right?

Thxs for all your input youve given me,, even for the turbo you've recommended me GTD in the past, it is an awesome turbo.

The benefit of ceramic coating your turbine housing, exhaust manifold, or downpipe over wrapping it with "header wrap" and using a turbo blanket is that the ceramic coating bonds to the metal itself, so it will prevent the parts from rusting or corroding over time. Depending on shop and personal preference, you can get the inside of exhaust manifold and downpipe coated to help improve the flow of the exhaust gasses.
As you can imagine one of the downsides to going with ceramic coating is the cost associated with having your parts coated. With shipping it cost me $130 to have the turbine housing ceramic coated at Swain Tech, but then you take a look at DEI's T3 turbo blanket kit and depending on which blanket you go with it starts at $167 and goes up to $283 for their top of the line model.

As far as which ceramic coating they would use on the turbine housing, my guess would be one of their thermal barrier coatings(TBC for short) and some places only have one option, while others might have 2 or 3 depending on the level of protection you'll need temp wise. Then depending on who you go with, some offer their ceramic coating in different colors, while others have just one color.

Here's a pros/cons list comparing ceramic coating to header wrap.

I had my original tubular manifold coated by Performance Coatings out of Auburn, WA. https://www.performancecoatings.com/
For my rebuild and new turbo setup, I went with Swain Tech this time due to the fact that they offer ceramic coating of pistons. https://swaintech.com/

Here are a few pictures of my original tubular manifold ceramic coated by Performance Coatings

And here it is before I sold it. As you can see it held up really well imo.

Here's the one that you're probably most interested in and that would be the turbine housing ceramic coated by Swain Tech.;)

Hope that helps and I'm glad I was able to out when you were trying to figure out what your next turbo was going to be.:D

Very nice, that housing is from which turbo?

Are you using this turbo for your jetta? Single or twin? I'm curious to know how quickly that turbo spools any lag?

Thanks! It should be back up and running by the end of the month if everything goes according to plan.

What are you expecting HP &TQ goals? I know you'll probably will not have lag,

Honestly this time around I'm less worried about hp/torque numbers and more concerned with longevity.;) I know that the car is getting pushed pretty darn hard out on the track, but I haven't had the best luck with the car as far as little issues that turn into bigger issues. For example...the exhaust leak started off pretty small initially in the fall of 2017, but kept on getting worse and then the same thing pretty much happened again in the spring of 2019 due to Trudell Performance not checking the exhaust manifold that it was straight and true. Then last fall the car probably got pushed a little harder than it should have, causing us to burn down cylinder 4.:(

So this build I'm focusing on making the car reliable and lasting as long as possible before anything major has to be done to it. Hence the ceramic coating to the pistons, exhaust manifold, and turbine housing. Plus as you already know, I went with the GT23 turbine wheel to try and help with EGTs. Once it's back up and running I'll have the tune dialed back to help clear things up, so it's not so smoky, well everywhere but idle.:D

Plus I'd much rather be spending the money on registration, tires, brake pads, brake fluid, diesel additive, diesel for the car, and gas for our van that gets me and the car to the track days. Instead of what I've had to spend it on in the last three years.;)

Having said all that I will play the what could it potentially make contest. If I had to guess with everything that's been done to the car lately and the wick turned up from it's track day tuning...I would guess 297 AWHP and 410 all wheel torque (lb-ft).
