And VWoA gives us a Dodge van, but without the neat hiding rear seats?
Aw, come on!

If they sell it in the USA, I will almost certainly buy one as long as it has a manual transmission available and can tow at least 1500 lbs.

My thoughts exactly, Lug Nut. I didn't realize VW customers were screaming for a full size minivan, so the Routan came totally outta left field. I've said before, why wouldn't VW just certify the Touran or Sharan for the US market? I'd guess it'd be cheaper than buying (and re-engineering) the T&C, which didn't sell anyway. Anything they could do to differentiate their car in that busy segment would be helpful. In this case, a minivan is a perfect application for diesel power IMO.

It would take a lot more then a TDI to interest me in a mini van. Don't we have enough of they here all ready?

Don't know about the new Sharan, but the outgoing model is rated to tow 4400 lbs in Europe.
Even with the typically lower American tow ratings, 1500 lbs shouldn't be a problem.

I hope we see that here in the States. We want a van for a next vehicle, and would love to buy VW, but there's no way we're buying a re-badged Dodge.

Makes a daddy proud

Speaking of the Routon...

Was watching tv with my 14 yr old daughter when one of the Routon commercials comes on. The dialog proceeded thusly:

Her: I like that van
Me: Its just like your grandmas Dodge
Her: Yeah but its cooler looking
Me: Yes it is
Her: Does it come with a diesel?
Me: No
Her: Why not?
Me: Because VW doesn't think it will sell here.
Her: Thats stupid. :)

I have at least one convert in the household. Now to work on the boy.

It actually is your grandfather's mini-van.

What model year?
I was walking through the living room, and saw a few
seconds of a Routan commercial, and realized as I
walked off, that the number on the screen was "2009".

Sure enough, on the US VW web site, they are still
selling new-in-box 2009 Routs. There are also 2010
models, although what the difference might be, other
than build date, is not obvious. Still no TDI of course.

The 2009s could be 24 month old vehicles.

Don't wait! It's a Chrysler! But with a higher price tag!
Even the 2010s?
Well, no. Those are Fiats with a higher price tag!

Any car company that has not yet produced a mini van please raze your hand. Any car company that's produced a mini van that's new and innovative please raze your hand. Any one?

CBS just ran a .9% Routan ad with 2010.
