P229F and Horrid MPG

Hey all, as the title states I can’t get rid of P229F and my mpg has been 10-11 around town. The dealer has had it twice and only resets the code and sends me on my way. The second time they did a ECM update last week that was supposed to fix it. I have a 2016 Touareg TDI with 64k miles and all the warranties.

My questions..

First, what can I do to get VW to replace nox sensors and other as needed DPF components? This is getting annoying!! I am going to submit a complaint to VWOA if they can’t get it fixed on this next trip to the dealership.

Second.. Does anyone know or think my issues with P229F are causing poor mpg? Also, I should not the car is using quite a bit of DEF as well.

Thanks everyone!!

So last week the dealer finally replaced the NOX sensor in the front as well as the cat it screws into. We got the car home and about 3 hours later, check engine light back on! Took back to the dealer today and complained to the manager. Hopefully replacing the next NOX sensor fixes it.

Keep all of your documents. The EPA settlement includes “lemon law” type clauses on multiple fixes and a buyback.

VW has tested all of the DPF system and can’t find out what’s wrong. They are contacting VW tech for more tips but are leaning towards replacing everything haha. We’ll see what they come up with. I love warranties and hate emissions equipment.

Are you speaking about the lemon law in general or the VW diesel specific one?

Called VW today to see how things are going. They said “VW is going to have us test something on the car and it’s not warm enough to do it today because the car would get warm enough”

It was about 30-50 degrees today in Denver. I’m starting to get the impression they have no freaking clue what they’re doing and just buying time.

Another update..

VWoA has no idea what’s wrong. They flew in a specialist to work on the car and they can’t figure out what’s going on. They are discussing buying the car back from us. ***?! I don’t know why they don’t just start replacing components

Guessing this forum is dead but whatever.

VW has still no idea. This week they did more testing and a couple regens with no luck. The wiring to and from all of the components to the ECU were inspected. Today they said they are going to replace the sensor on the DPF and “see what happens”

Seriously, no one has dealt with this issue before? VW has had our car since mid January LOL

Update!! Got a call last night at 6pm that they were able to fix the issues they think. They replaced the pressure sensor on the Diesel Particulate Filter. The sensor is I believe what tells the system how much AdBlue to inject. Anyway, they replaced it.. Ran another regen and drove 30 miles. Picked up the car today and made them fill the tank for having it 1.5 months and driving a couple hundred miles on the car. We’ll see how well this fixes everything! Just got home and it appears to be running normal and no lights are on.

Do you have an update? My son has a Q7 and it had a code for a NOX sensor and Audi put in a new one and he has put 1k miles on it since with no problems.

Ya we think we are good to go! The wiring to the pressure sensor appear to have cut he said. They replaced the wires and the pressure sensor and it’s been so much better. Mpg is up!
